Good morning. This is the Broward County Board of County Commissioners meeting of Thursday, April 16th, 24. And last week, We celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Broward County Library System with all kind of events. And so we're very proud of our world-class system. I'm sure many of you all know it was the number one system in the United States a couple years ago. And with that, I would like to ask Libraries Director Allison Grubbs if you would please lead us in the pledge.
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Thank you, Allison. Please remain standing. I'm sorry. Ladies and gentlemen, it is customary to observe a moment of silence in honor of notable persons from our community who have recently passed. Colleagues, does anyone have someone you wish to remember in a moment of silence? We'll start over
here.
Just a couple, Vice Mayor. We lost a U.S. Navy sailor. Ray Basola from Miramar. He was 34 years old
and
recently passed away surveying the aviation mechanics on helicopter maritime. I just want to make sure we remember him and his family and also the gentleman we lost here on Southeast 3rd, the constructor, the constructor guy that George so remember him and our prayers as well. Thank
you. Thank you. Bill Gunter, former state senator, former congressman, former longtime insurance commissioner, recently passed away. It was one of the early campaigns that I worked on. I was involved with several of his races. Good leader for the state of Florida. Has been retired for many years. I believe he was 89 when he passed. But we should remember him for all of the good work he did for the state of Florida. Thank you. Commissioner Rogers.
Yes, colleagues, on March 29th, we lost Dolores. Okay, thank you. On March 29th, we lost Dolores Cherry Duncan. Some of her most notable accomplishments include being a founding member of the East Sunrise Residents Association. During her tenure, she succeeded in organizing several signature events, such as Adopt a Street, Fourth of July Sunset Strip Parade, making sure the entire City of Sunrise got engaged in that major event. She has definitely made a major impact in the City of Sunrise, where she will be missed by residents of Sunrise and her adoring family. And also, we also lost an amazing Lauderdale Lakes resident, Buddy Newbold Sr. He was a passionate advocate for protection and preservation of our natural resources, and his tireless efforts made a significant impact on our community environmental landscape.
He is survived by his loving family, including his niece, Commissioner LaTeacher Newbold from the city of Oakland Park. May their souls rest in peace. Thank you.

And it's going to be presented to Sharon Owens with the Coral Springs Fire Department and Sherry White with Broward Sheriff's Office, if they would come on up as well.
