Good morning. Well, it's on. Okay. Good morning, everyone. Okay. Good morning. I'm going to call the meeting to order. We have a distinguished guest, some here and some arriving soon. And I would like to invite Judge Peter Weinstein and his wonderful wife, Barbara, to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Please remain standing. Ladies and gentlemen, it is customary that we observe a moment of silence in honor of notable persons from our community who have recently passed. Colleagues, does anyone have someone they wish to remember during this moment of silence? I'll start with Commissioner Rogers. Senator Geller.
I'd just like all of us to keep in our prayers the people of Georgia after what happened yesterday. All too familiar with that here in Broward County, and no child or community should have to go through that. So I ask you to keep all of them in your prayers as their community looks to heal after this event. I was thinking the same thing. So I'm glad you brought
it up. Thank you, Mayor. I'd like for us to remember Elvis Joel Liriano, Jr., known as Jay, to his family and friends. He was the 15-year-old student from Flanagan High School who tragically passed away this week in Pembroke Pines on his way to school. Some of the family members very close to me and my staff. So keep them in your prayers, please. Thank you.
I would like to remember the six hostages who were murdered by Hamas, including an American citizen by the name of Hersh Goldberg Poland. These families waited nearly 11 months for their release, only to learn that they will never return. May the memory of those lost due to the senseless horror always be a blessing, and may their families be comforted during this difficult time. Let us also honor all the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve in the armed forces, both here and abroad, and thank them for their service. Moment of silence, please.
