AND THE FIRE RESCUE ADVISORY BOARD COMMUNICATION SIMPLY SAYS THAT THEY APPROVE THE STRATEGIC PLAN FOR THE FIRE RESCUE ADVISORY COMMITTEE, AND THE STRATEGIC PLAN, IF YOU KEEP SCROLLING, YOU'LL SEE IT'S IN THE MINUTES THAT THEY'VE ATTACHED. Good afternoon, Mayor, Vice Mayor, members of the Commission. Well, Vice Mayor's not here, I'm sorry. But Commissioners, Bill Brown, Chairman of the Fire Rescue Advisory Committee. If you recall last fall when the first... term of the frack was to sunset we came back before you and asked that we get reauthorized and reappointed for another two-year term and during those conversations uh IT WAS ASKED BY THE COMMISSION FOR THE FRAC TO DEVELOP A STRATEGIC PLAN OF WHAT OUR GOALS AND INITIATIVES WERE GOING TO BE DURING THIS NEXT TWO-YEAR CYCLE. SO THAT IS WHAT IS BEFORE YOU. WE'VE BEEN HEAVILY ENGAGED MAKING SURE THAT THERE'S NO CONFLICTS WITHIN OUR STRATEGIC PLAN THAT WOULD BE A CONFLICT WITH THE DEPARTMENT STRATEGIC PLAN.

And part of it, too, is the fact that they also get part of their accreditation for us being a class one city is that they have stakeholder and community involvement. So this strengthens that class certification process and shows to the committee that does the evaluation that we are actively engaged in this community and we're working closely with the PIO. One thing I might add is we hear often the lack of citizens' knowledge of the fire assessment fee. They think the fire assessment fee pays 100% of the fire department's obligation. And as we know, that's not the case. So those are the types of things that we have to work at strategically and communicate to the community so that they have a better understanding and also all the other programs the fire department has to offer.

We need to get them up to, I mean, I always thought the intent when we did the enabling legislation was actually seven. But then I guess there's a confusion over whether it's seven or five. But regardless, they're only at four. So we need to get them a little bit more participation.
