So uh today we are here for the conference meeting for the city commission of Fort Lauderdale this November fourth, twenty twenty five. Thank you all for being here today. Um So let us begin. Uh we start with the communications with the city commission, uh the education advisory board. They uh sent us a communication. Asking um for a partnership between the city and Brower County School District to find a location for public safety training facility. Not quite sure what that's all about. Someone from staff like to uh Educate us as to what that means?

I'm wonderful. How are you guys? I'm good. Mayor, commissioners, um I'm Janet Gualtieri. I'm chair of of the education advisory board and I'm here to present a report from our board. Um at our last meeting on October sixteenth. the assistant fire chief Michael Owens made a presentation to the EAB presenting the need for a facility To house the public safety training center. And as a result of his presentation A motion was made at the meeting to recommend that the commission support a partnership between the city and Broward County School District. To find a location for the public safety training facility. As part of that discussion, all parties considered the impact it would have on current students. and families as well as the broader communities around the campus.

not ask for a specific facility. We left it open to um the many empty facilities that are going to take place uh with the new reevaluation of the schools.

Right now the the school board has offered us a Siegel school at uh four twenty four southwest twenty eighth street. Um just off of eighty four, just off of State Road eighty four.

Uh it would be a shared campus with Witten Rogers there as well. Um as far as what our needs would be. That is that facility all the buildings that it encompasses is somewhere in the neighborhood of I think twenty High twenty eight thousand square feet, something like that. Um, but a lot of that is portable buildings and things that It's not all one huge facility.

At several different buildings. Does that work for us? Yes, sir. We'll make it work. What is what about the uh the building next to um fire station? What what is it, Commissioner Glassman? The one in Point Studio Heights, that that building that's next to the fire station. What's the fire station in Point Sadia Heights? Do you remember Station twenty nine, you mean? Is it station twenty nine? And the training facility that was built there years ago for the fire department. We just abandoned that Mayor. They uh the fire union gave that back to us. The cost of rehabilitation was proving to be excessive. There was leaks, there were air conditioning problems. They had brought in architect uh to look at it effective I believe it was the original architect of the building was looking to do it and they eventually all just threw their hands up.

Uh current uh fire union president brought it back to us. I wanna say two months ago and we cancelled the uh th they they they gave it back to us. Um All right. So I don't know what how cost effective it is to You know, we don't have any numbers yet, right, with the school board? That's correct. We haven't gotten into what the cost is gonna be or what that partnership would look like.
