All right. So now we begin our conference meeting, the city commission, this uh november twenty first, twenty twenty three. I appreciate everyone's patience for waiting until we concluded the previous meeting. Um So today we have uh a number of items on this agenda. which I'm going to get to in just a moment. We have no we have no communications from any uh of the advisory board. So we'll just jump right into uh old business. We'll start out with business one. Uh this is regarding the new river crossing update part two, Mr City Manager.

Good afternoon, um honorable mayor, vice mayor, and commissioners. So today we have this opportunity to discuss further the new river crossing. We've invited, as uh you all directed, the various consultants and that w worked on the various reports. Um I'd like to stress that uh this is certainly a very significant decision that this Commission will have to take because it will shape the future of the core of the city of Fort Lauderdale. And um the way that we have um uh proposer uh put this meeting together is that we'll have uh two discussions or have two parts discussions. The first part of the discussion is um is each consultant will have a ten to fifteen minute discussion uh and synthesis on two their reports and after each consultant finishes their report

Um you will have an opportunity to ask questions specifically about the reports if you like. Um that Then concludes the first part. The second part Um we'll look at the next steps and also think about Um Other um perhaps Thoughts about how positioning, um, how economic development And how uh community um access will certainly being impacted by uh any system for the new river crossing. With that said, um I'd like for you all to consider how this new river crossing, for instance, um will will certainly accommodate the number of of commuter rail crossings and bright lane crossings that will happen in the near future. Um also uh I'd like for you all to think about the marine industry, which is an important component of um our economy.

And also um consider how um further economic impacts uh for nearby communities like him or she or the downtown core or Sistrunk, as you all have worked in the past uh decades in investing in these communities, it's important that we preserve those economic development opportunities that are happening today. With that said, um Ben now will facilitate those discussions. He will introduce each consultant. And um please ask as many questions as you want. Because we really like to make sure that you have all the answers for uh future decision making. Okay,

Mr. Rogers. Uh good afternoon, Mayor Commission. Ben Rogers, Director of Transportation Mobility. So as the city manager um previewed, you know, we've got a lot of industry experts here on different fronts, um, from federal lobbyists and and a focus on financial and and federal grant opportunities funding uh to private consultants uh and to uh academic lens on on tunneling and engineering aspects. So Uh I'm going to introduce each of the speakers, give you a little bit of background about them, and then we'll go in order um based on when their reports were provided. Um so we'll do each one will have as as city manager said, ten to fifteen minutes to present on their reports or their findings. Uh again there's different approaches and different ways uh to come to

Um, so I don't think we're looking at who's right and who's wrong, but really trying to get just an overall understanding of uh the work that they performed, uh what was included in it, and to give the commission a well a better understanding or a well-rounded understanding uh of their work effort. So with that, uh the first one of the first uh speakers is gonna be from the Florida Department of Transportation, is Phil Schwab, who is an in-house consultant to District 4 in the Office of Modal Development, where he's served. serves as F dot's project manager for the BCR South project. has been involved with the commuter rail project since February of twenty twenty.
