Good afternoon everybody and welcome to the City Commission conference meeting this uh eighteenth day of February twenty twenty five. Um we have a number of exciting things to talk about this afternoon and uh thank you all for being here. We begin by addressing the communic the communications that were sent to the city commission. The first one. was sent to us by the uh Beach uh Business Improvement District Advisory Committee. And uh uh the communication that was sent to us was to expand the uh the advisory committee to include all top ten highest contributing properties as members and that would include additional hotels and I know Lee, are you here on behalf of the committee? You wanna come up and talk to us a little bit?

Good afternoon, Mayor, and obviously um everyone else, uh Vice Mayor and the Commissioners. I'm Ina Lee and I own travel host. I um serve on the Beach Business Improvement District, and I've been very deeply involved, I think most of you know, on the redevelopment beach since 1984. In fact, I was instrumental in the creation of the bid. And for those of you that weren't around back, Back then it was created because the CRA, which I also chaired back then, was limited in its scope. It could only do capital improvements, and we needed additional marketing out there on the beach so that the beach could thrive. And so the bid was created. And to be clear, this is their money, okay? It uh the way it was set up, obviously you all approve it, but everyone the businesses on the beach contribute to it.
That's their dollars. So in the beginning, when it was created, um, it was created so seven of the top ten contributors served on the board. But things have changed since then. And um we as a board felt that it was important to include all ten of the top stakeholders. And what that does for us is it opened up hotels like the Conrad to be on the board, also the Hotel Marin, Marriott B. Place those are the other three. And it gives us additional scope on the beach. And we felt that was very important. And so this is a unanimous decision recommended to you to expand the scope of it. Because also what happened back then in the beginning, there were no term limits put on. So all seven of the top ten properties have never gotten off the board.
So it allows doesn't allow anyone else to be on. So we're respectively respectfully. Actively asking you to approve this so we can expand it and continue to do the marketing. And those of you that don't know, our job is to market the beach. We've also helped supplement the city in terms of cleaning up the beach. We fund events like the air show in Tortuga and other major events on the beach, and we have our own advertising campaign to bring business to the beach. Uh So I'm happy to answer any questions. But just so you know, this is something that we all agree on and we felt it was important.
Okay, anyone have any questions of Ina? So what would be the process uh going forward on this?
I I I think I need clarification because um I'm hearing the item speaking with in terms of expansion of the district, but then I when I hear Miss Analys speak, it's with regards to the actual board composition. So if I can get clarification on the You don't want to expand the geographical area, no no this
is just expanding so all seven of the top all ten of the top contributors. Instead of the instead of the
top seven of the top ten, all ten of the top ten. would pa would be members of the board. So we would have to we would need an uh an an item on the agenda to increase the uh the membership of the bid to include the top ten hotel years, uh not just the top seven of the
just be uh amending the uh ordinance or resolution that sets up the board composition of the exactly. So that would come by way
of a resolution which would have to be done at a city commission meeting, correct? That's correct. All right. So maybe not then you could either do it as a walk on tonight or um If you want to just do it next yeah, okay, next time.
