What opening ceremonies and pledges were performed at the start of the meeting?
GOOD EVENING, EVERYBODY, AND WELCOME TO THE CITY COMMISSION MEETING THIS AUGUST 19, 2025. THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING HERE TONIGHT. AND IT LOOKS LIKE WE HAVE A VERY ROBUST AGENDA, SO I'D LIKE TO BEGIN THE PROCEEDINGS IF I CAN. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE HERE FOR THE FIRST TIME, THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE. WE START OUR EVENING MEETING WITH THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE AND MOMENT OF SILENCE AND MAKE A NUMBER OF ANNOUNCEMENTS. So as we begin our meeting tonight, I'd like to invite Ava Maldonado and Talia Rogers from Crescent Park Elementary School to please come to the podium with me so we can both recite the, all three of us recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
I see you brought your audience with
you. We'll
do it after that. Okay, so step up to the microphone. And you may begin. Put your hand on your heart. There you go. I pledge.
I
pledge
allegiance
to the flag of the United States of
America and to the republic
of which it
stands,
one
nation, under God, indivisible, with
liberty and justice for
all.
Wonderful. Thank you so much. I think they want to have a picture. Come on. Commissioner from Coyson Park. This is Ben Sorensen. He's your commissioner.
Hi. Thank you for being here.
I love your jacket.
Come on. Do you want me to get on? I'm sorry? Yes, I know. Oh, right then, after the picture.
Come on in.
Who were the city employees honored with retirement recognitions?
Okay, we have a little gift for you. God, you're going to run away from home with all this stuff.
Are you a mom? Awesome, okay. Please, awesome.
We have a little something for you. Thank you for your participating in our pledge tonight.
Thank you. Thank you, ladies. Great job.
Thank you again for participating in our pledge. Thank you, folks. Now, please join me in a moment of silence.
Mayor, could I just I'm starting to interrupt. Could I just say that while we're doing this, if we could remember two amazing citizens who passed away recently in our city, John Day and Hugh Chappelle. Thank you. Thank you.
THANK YOU. TONIGHT I'D LIKE TO ALSO TAKE A MOMENT AND ANNOUNCE SOME RETIREMENTS. WE TAKE THIS MOMENT IN OUR BEGINNING OF OUR MEETING TO ANNOUNCE RETIREMENTS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE SERVED OUR CITY FOR 20 YEARS OR MORE. AND THERE ARE SIX PEOPLE TONIGHT WHO I'D LIKE TO RECOGNIZE. First of all, Wesley Taylor, police officer, who has been with us for 26.5 years, 26 and a half years. Thank you so much, Wesley, for your dedication to our city. Richard Murrell, senior police teletype operator, has been with us 35 years. Wow, thank you, Richard. And of course, Louie Alvarez, assistant chief, who has moved on to, I guess, another agency who had been with us for 28 years. Thank you, Louie. Julia Horn, also from the police department, who's been with us 29 and a half years.
Amazing. Twenty nine and a half years. Diana Rose, also from the police department. She was a police officer, been with us for 20 years, 20.5 years. And Pascal France, also a police officer who has been with us for 18.5 years. Thank you all. Amazing. Chief Schultz, is there anyone left? I mean, we just decimated your department. All right. So we have a couple, before we get the agenda announcements, would the clerk please call the roll?
Vice Mayor Herbst is absent this evening. Commissioner Glassman? Here. Commissioner Beasley-Pittman? Here. Commissioner Sorensen? Here.
Mayor Trentals? Here. So we have a quorum tonight. Our first agenda announcement, CR5, is going to be moved from the consent agenda to the public hearing section because it requires a public hearing.
What public presentations and grants were announced, such as the marine unit check?
Thank you. ALSO CR4, IT'S A COMMISSION AGENDA MEMO, WAS REVISED AND EXHIBIT 4 WAS ADDED AS AN ADDITIONAL BACKUP. AND THUS CR5 IS NOW GOING TO BE A PUBLIC HEARING. COMMISSION AGENDA MEMO EXHIBIT 4, A LEASE, AND EXHIBIT 5, THE RESOLUTION WAS REVISED. TO REFLECT REVISIONS TO THE LEASE SO THE RENT BEGINS ONCE PERMITS ARE OBTAINED AND THE DOCS ARE STORED RATHER THAN AFTER ALL SITE IMPROVEMENTS INCLUDING, EXCUSE ME, ALLOWING REVENUE TO START EARLIER. SO WOULD SOMEONE LIKE TO MOVE TO APPROVE THE MINUTES AS IS AND THE AGENDA AS AMENDED?
SO MOVED.
