Thank you everybody for participating in uh the twenty twenty four goal setting session of the City Commission. I want to thank uh uh certainly the members of the City Commission all being here today and uh and also our staff members and also folks from the community. Thank you all for listening and uh maybe I at the end of the day we might have an opportunity for for you to participate. Um so This uh this session has taken on different formats over the years and uh as as John knows. And uh uh and uh so today we'll we'll begin the the format with uh city staff talking a little bit about things that have been accomplished since our last goal setting session, uh what milestones we uh we ach we hope to have achieved and ones we did achieve as well.
well as um uh the expectations for twenty twenty four and then uh we'll start with the members of the commission. I'll start with uh com uh district one and go around the table and just talk about uh our our goals for twenty twenty four. So Mr. City Manager.
Thank you, Mr. Mayor, and good afternoon uh again, Mayor, Vice Mayor, Commissioners and Members of the Community. Uh though it's very early in the year, um it's a great start uh right now to discuss the budget, discuss priorities. And there are many exciting things to come in twenty twenty-four as we look ahead. Um the commission with the support of city staff and the community has convened today so that we could again, like you mentioned, Mayor Mayor, build consensus in setting city priorities for uh fiscal year twenty twenty-five, which starts on October first, twenty twenty-four. This is uh a very important step in the strategic process in our budgeting. process as well and I appreciate everyone uh being here and especially the members of the community stakeholders.
Uh it's very important for us to to get this direction and feedback. So again our team depends on having strategic goals in place so that we could be uh resource efficient and cost efficient and so we're also looking at policy direction and uh this is gonna help us deliver on the Commission's vision. Again, we're the yachting capital of the world. There's great opportunity here and this is one way to think about it. The commission steers the ship. Uh and our team rose. Uh and for the next five months, uh staff is going to work diligently in preparing an operational budget that reflects what you all agree on here today and reflects on what we need to deliver for these strategic priorities. Um trust me, uh the budget advisory board also uh is working alongside Wood City staff.
We're meeting on a monthly basis. and looking at these goals and also uh l creating a baseline for everything that we will deliver. It's basically our true north is um our our budget and what you all set here today. And so again in June you're going to have a preliminary budget. You will be able to look at uh line items and also uh provide feedback um even further. And um and also we're looking at gathering some of that feedback today um and this afternoon, which will be the basis for that budget that we prepare in June and also the conversations that we will have with the Bab. So again, um We've designed a workshop uh to get your creative juices flowing. Uh we're going to have a series of exercises uh for engagement and we've created um again this uh conducive environment uh so that we could have meaningful conversations with each other.
Uh once again, we look towards you for your leadership, your guidance, uh, and to help us decide how we should strategically um appropriate our limited public resources. I want to mention that again. We want we look at you so that we can appropriate strategically our limited public resources. Uh and together we will move forward our city to address the big issues that we are facing in the months and years to come. to the community leaders in the audience today and those that are joining us via Zoom. Um we want you to get involved in the next days and months ahead. Uh more than ever the city is making a concerted effort, an intentional effort.
