What were the opening remarks and agenda items at the start of the Board meeting?

Phyllis J. Randall 6:52
Well, good evening, supervisors. Good evening, staff. Good evening, Loudoun. I'd like to call to order the December 19th, 2023 Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Business Meeting. This room has a hearing loop. If you need hearing assistance, please switch your hearing aid to the telecoil mode. If you need a headset, we have those available as well. Please see the clerk to request one. Tonight, for the words of inspiration, all I will do is offer a thank you as we come to or are now at our last meeting for the term. I want to say thank you, especially to the staff that I believe is one of the best staffs in all of America, to be honest, and all the work we've done over the past four years. If you just think about the past four years, we have dealt with a lot.
Phyllis J. Randall 7:40
A 100-year pandemic, an economic downturn, what I consider was a long-overdue reckoning on racial justice in America, and an insurrection, all in the past four years. It's been quite the heavy lift four years, and the staff has done a remarkable job. I also want to thank every citizen for all the feedback you've given us. Sometimes the feedback is things we want to hear, and sometimes it's not. But that is how a representative democracy works, is we hear from the people at all times. And so to all the staff and to all the constituents, to all the citizens, we thank you very much for all the tireless work you put in for this year. Having said that, would everyone please join me in the Pledge of Allegiance?
Tony Buffington 8:27

Supervisors. Let me find it so you know what I'm going to add and read. Just give me a second.

Supervisors, without objection, I'm going to add item number six to the agenda. It's the potential mediation of Leesburg annexation claims to the agenda. You received this last night, and so I want to make sure that you know that only part of this motion will be read tonight. The part of the motion that will be read is the, so just so you know what I'm adding. I move the Board of Supervisors authorize the county attorney and the county administrator to engage in mediation on the issue raised by the September 28th, 2022 notice of intention to petition for annexation of territory in the County of Loudoun now pending before the commission and local government. That is the part of the motion and not only is the part of the motion that I will be adding to the agenda tonight.
Phyllis J. Randall 9:55
