I'd like to call to order the October first, two thousand twenty four Loudoun County Board of Supervisors business meeting. This room has a hearing loop. Um Mr. Laterno will probably not be able to make it tonight, but he he did request a um a remote participation. So just on the off chance that he will be able to come, I'm gonna go on and read it, but he did tell me earlier that he that it's unlikely he's actually out of the state on business.
And so I will go on and read it just in case. Pursuant to Virginia's uh code section two point two-three seven oh eight. Dot three and the Board of Supervisors Rules of Order. Supervisor Laterno requested to participate in this meeting by electronic communications. A physical quorum of the Board of Supervisors is present in the boardroom, and the board has made all arrangements for the board supervisors to be heard by all persons in the boardroom should he come to the to the room. Uh virtually. Supervisor Laturno made this request within the required time frame, and the county attorney determined that Supervisor Laturner request meets the qualifications to participate remotely. The board will record in its minutes that Supervisor Laturner participated remotely from a hotel room in Anaheim, California, due to metro-related business.
So he's actually doing um county and regional business, but he happens to be doing In Anaheim, California. So again, if he is able to join us, we already were ready for him, but I do not think he is, and he he spoke to me already about some of the things that he wanted to have uh relay while while we're up on this day as tonight. Um Supervisor Sainz is is will be late. Um he'll be here around 5:30. Supervisor Kirschner um will also, if he can make it, and we think he will, but it will be late also. he is in uh um t I won't say tied up in court, but his day job has him um busy on an important case um in another county and so he will get here as fast as he can. Um um so hopefully we will see Mr Saints and Mr Kirshner just a little bit later.
Um would everyone please join me in the Pledge of Allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Okay. Um I'm going to add the proclamation for Hispanic Heritage Month to tonight's meeting. Uh I'm gonna put it on the consent agenda. Before I do that, I need to make a motion to suspend the rules. Is there a motion to suspend? I'll make a motion to suspend. Is there a second? Motion is made second by Supervisor Brixman. Discussion on the motion to suspend? Seeing none, all in favor please say aye. Aye. Any opposed? That motion will pass 5-0. Oh my gosh. One, two, three, yeah.
Wow. 504. And then I will make a motion to add item R6, proclamation to recognize Hispanic Heritage Month in Lauderdan County to the October 1st, 2024, Board of Supervisors Business Meeting for Action.
So In two thousand, I don't remember what it was, it was two thousand seven, two thousand eight, one of those years, I came into the boardroom before I was when I was a s just a citizen, and I I asked the board at the time why they didn't do a proclamation for African American History Month. Um my predecessor said something to me that I'll never forget, and he was completely correct. He said, Well, why don't you write it yourself and then bring it to us? And I thought he's absolutely correct. Why would I ask? A board to write a resolution about the community that I'm deeply involved in, versus me spending time writing that resolution myself and knowing the community. A lot of times the disability community has a saying that says, nothing about us without us.
So when this resolution for Hispanic Heritage Month first came to me to be put on the agenda, I denied it.
