What agenda items were approved at the start of the meeting?

Thank you.
Deshundra Jefferson 30:31
All right, good afternoon, everyone. Today is Tuesday, July 8th, and we are going to start with a moment of silence.
Deshundra Jefferson 30:54
All rise if you are able for the Pledge of Allegiance.
Deshundra Jefferson 31:17
All right. Before we move on to agenda item number three, unfortunately, two supervisors were unable to make it in person today. So I am going to ask that we waive the rules of procedure to amend the agenda and add an item to approve request for remote participation. May I?
Tom Gordy 31:37
So moved.
Deshundra Jefferson 31:40
All right, and that was properly moved by Supervisor Bodie and seconded by Supervisor Franklin. Can we go ahead and take a vote? I don't think there's any discussion.
Chelsea Folk 31:58
Vote unanimous, Supervisors Gordy and Weir absent from vote.
Deshundra Jefferson 32:03
And they will be joining us remotely, hopefully, sometime soon. And while we're waiting for them to come up and be on the screen, I just want to wish my colleague, Supervisor Yesue Vega, a happy birthday. We didn't sing for Supervisor Angry. Do you want us to sing for you? No, I don't think so. I think you're OK because you haven't heard me sing. All right, so we are going to move on now to agenda item number four. Do we have Supervisors Weir and Gordy present?
Unknown 32:34
I'm
Tom Gordy 32:40
here.
Deshundra Jefferson 32:41
All right. So moving on to the accommodations and proclamations, can I get a motion for a, I'm sorry.
Chelsea Folk 32:49
I think item three is the approval.
Deshundra Jefferson 32:51
Oh, yes. Approval. All right. All right. Mark that. All
Noah Mendoza 32:54
right. So
Deshundra Jefferson 32:54
agenda item number three. Move for approval.
Noah Mendoza 32:56
Second.
Deshundra Jefferson 32:57
All right. It's been properly moved and seconded. Can we take a vote?
Chelsea Folk 33:04
Supervisor Gordy? Aye. Thank you, sir. Supervisor Weir?
Unknown 33:09
Aye.
Chelsea Folk 33:10
Thank you. Vote unanimous.
Deshundra Jefferson 33:16
All right. We have a number of people who have walked in. If you can all take a seat. I'll give you a moment to take a seat.
Yesli Vega 33:22
Oh, they're
Deshundra Jefferson 33:24
here. Oh,
Yesli Vega 33:25
dang. Wow.
Deshundra Jefferson 33:30
All right, Seth, you're rolling hard today. I mean, if you cannot have a seat, because you're going to be up soon, it's just the fire marshal does not. Well, you're the first one. Let's hurry up and take a vote. Move for approval, Madam Chair. Hold on. We're on agenda item number 4A and 4B. So, motion? Move for approval, Madam Chair.
Noah Mendoza 33:51
Second.
Deshundra Jefferson 33:52
All right. Let's go ahead and take our vote.
Tom Gordy 33:56
Aye.
Chelsea Folk 33:57
Supervisor Gordy?
Deshundra Jefferson 33:59
Aye.
Chelsea Folk 34:00
Supervisor Weir?
Deshundra Jefferson 34:02
Aye.
Chelsea Folk 34:03
Thank you.
Deshundra Jefferson 34:04
I think, Seth, you might have the biggest crowd I've seen yet. I don't know. We've got to start measuring these things. All right, so I'm going to go to the podium for 4A and 4B. And for 4A, Seth, you might as well just have your people come stand to the side if they want, or they can remain seated until we take a photo. We'll probably have to take the photo out in the atrium.
Deshundra Jefferson 34:45
All right, this is for item 4A, and that's to proclaim July 2025 Parks and Recreation Month in Prince William County. I think what we're going to do is I'll say a few words, I'll invite you, Seth, and then we can take a picture after I do the second proclamation, since you have a large group. Sounds great. All right. Each July, we celebrate park and recreation professionals and how they improve the lives of tens of millions of people, making a lasting impact in communities across the country. Launched in 1985, this year marks the 40th anniversary of Park and Recreation Month. Park and recreation programs are essential to community health and well-being. They promote health and wellness, improving the physical and mental health of people who have access to parks.
Deshundra Jefferson 35:28
And here are a few fun facts about parks. Spending time in nature positively impacts our mental health by increasing cognitive performance and well-being, and alleviating illnesses such as depression, attention deficit disorders, and Alzheimer's disease. They promote physical health by providing space for sports, hiking, swimming, golfing, playing, and many other activities designed to encourage active lifestyles. Today, the Prince William Board of County Supervisors hereby recognizes July 2025 as Park and Recreation Month in Prince William County and celebrates the hundreds of full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees in the Parks and Rec Department. as well as the bevy of volunteers who work tirelessly and with utmost passion to steward and expand our beautiful park and trail system, preserve our historic assets, and provide award-winning services.
