Madam Chair, my colleagues, and to the August audience today, it gives me great pleasure to proclaim June 23rd, 2026 as Batestown History Day. Batestown was founded in the 1820s, and after the Civil War, it grew in a population as former slaves moved there. During the remainder of the 1800s, the Batestown population grew large enough to support a church and a school, and this portion of the county became part of the historic black community and culture of Prince William County. On Saturday, June 20th, an exhibit at Williams Ordinary exploring the history of Badestown and the contributions of its residents open to the public. Therefore, the Prince William County Board of County Supervisors, pardon me, hereby proclaims June 23rd, Badestown History Day.

On behalf of the citizens of Bates town past and present, I want to thank Ms. Bailey for her undying effort to help that community. She has been a big supporter for that town and, um, thank everybody else for all the help that they've ever done for us.

I want to echo my cousin Charlie Reed in thanking Supervisor Bailey and the entire board for recognizing historic Baystown. And as many of you know, Baystown residents are free landowners and business people prior to the Civil War. So we thank the Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Bailey, and Chair Jefferson for recognizing Baystown. And I'm also a member of the Historical Commission, so that's helpful, too. Thank you. Thank you.

Good fathering and co-parenting during infancy, childhood, and adolescence contributes to emotional security and has overwhelmingly positive psychological and economic benefits for children, families, communities, and other sectors. Children are less likely to face poverty, infant mortality, abuse, and neglect when there is an involved father in their lives. All fathers must invest in providing emotional and financial support for their children at every juncture of their lives, supporting involved nurturing and responsible fatherhood. Throughout our state, we aim to promote positive fathering and co-parenting to showcase providers of fatherhood resources and services. and to increase public awareness of the crucial role of fathers.
