We're going to continue to be the world's leaders in internal combustion engines.
Great.
That's why my dad came to this country to design.
But also we should be the world's leader in EV2.
And so what does that look like?
What is the the kind of industrial policy that includes the right mix of subsidies and investments and tariffs to be able to allow us to continue to be the world's leader?
So that's the next step, right?
It's yes, tearing back these ridiculous, uh aimless.
Tariffs, but it's also saying, all right, what's the smart use of these to actually start doing the things that tariffs are supposed to do?
Scott, you're a uh a business professor.
You you've forgotten more about this stuff than than I know, but you and I both agree that there is a way to use these kinds of tools if you're smart about it.
It's like taking a hammer and trying to nail in a screw that just doesn't work.
Um, so what does it look like to use a screwdriver uh or to use a hammer against the nail?
Yeah.
So let's break the problem down into a couple parts.
Our inflation crisis, inflation, as you well know, is when there's too much money chasing too few goods.
Our economy has gotten less productive than it needs to be, in large part because uh it's ossified around a few very large corporations who we expect to drive all of our economic growth.
So if we're serious about taking this problem on, we need the combination of A, a really smart small business oriented economic development uh approach, B, really, really smart industrial policy, like the kind I laid out where uh we make some
Really smart investments and high job growth opportunities.
And then we back them up with subsidies to help grow those industries and create jobs and tariffs that protect those industries as they grow.
