I went to my primary care physician.
I went to a sports specialist doctor.
And they all said you have what's called compartment syndrome.
Mm-hmm.
which is a blood circulation and inflammation issue.
And essentially, the blood flow gets cut off to my legs when I'm running.
So they go numb.
Wow.
The crazy thing is within five minutes of stopping, the blood flow comes back.
I can feel my legs again.
And so I didn't think it was all that big of a deal.
But when I set my sights on wanting to run a full marathon, I thought I'm probably doing permanent damage at this point.
Mm-hmm.
And I was sitting down with the sports specialist doctor one day, and he said, you really should not be running with this.
If you ever want to run normally again, you have two choices.
You can quit running altogether, or you can get surgery on both of your legs.
And I thought, neither.
I've never had surgery before.
I was just a D1 athlete.
What do you mean I can't run?
