And the impression I had, and I put it to them as well, but the impression I had was that they are singling out the European Commission almost like a rogue element within the EU that is unconnected to the people, the council, to the countries who represent the people that you're talking about, the users and the consumers.

But let me ask you this.

It had occurred to some of us, the EU journalists who were here, when you talk about the granularity of the discussions and we talk about the dynamics around that, what do you say or think to the idea that

It's more difficult for Apple as an American tech company to be dealing with the European Commission now.

And this may be completely unrated, but I'm just going to set the scene anyway.

In January, the US president threatened to invade Greenland.

The vice president of the US has several times lectured Europe about how we are dopes and dummies and we're anti-innovative and we don't have a clue we should get with the program.

Then you have the biggest American company coming to the European Commission, which are the very bureaucrats that American politicians are taking aim at and saying, by the way, could we do this?

I know it's a little bit unconventional and I know you have rules around it, but maybe we can work with you on it.

And the European Commission just says no.

Now, obviously, what I'm trying to suggest here is that there is a geopolitical element that the mood music somehow in the background affects all of this.
