I think when women don't feel safe in their own communities, it does impact them also going to seek
you know, care and treatment and services.
What is its goal?
The Global Women's Health Index happened because we believe that women's health was being undermeasured globally and the better data that we have, we hope that will drive better health policy, investment and outcomes for women and girls around the globe.
The data is collected in partnership with Gallup and it's made up of 145,000 people across 144 countries and territories in 140 languages and Australia makes a part of that.
So the highest performer of this report was Taiwan and they came in at a score of 69 out of 100.
Australia ranked 42nd with an index of 59 out of 100.
We look at five dimensions across the women's health cycle and they include preventive care, emotional health, opinions of health and safety, basic needs and individual health.
We've actually found overall that Australia did perform above the global average, which was 54%.
However, a number of our dimensions have continued to decline.
When it comes to preventive care, we remained quite stable, but still measured quite low, relatively.
When it came to emotional wellbeing, this was very much a concern because we've seen a continued decline over the years.
And the results this year indicated that 52% of women reported experiencing stress.
42% experienced worry for much of the previous day when the interviews were done.
Most importantly to note was that our stress levels at 52% were actually far beyond the global average of 38%.
Yeah, so I think we found across the five dimensions, one of the other ones was basic needs.
And there's been an incline in basic needs and women struggling to afford food.
So 22% of women this year reported to be unable to afford food and 11% struggled to afford shelter.
