Take an aspirant.
She wants to become a doctor.
Is she doing things right or wrong?
Are her actions and her way of studying, her way of thinking about medicine, are they going right or wrong?
Well, in order to really judge that, we would want to think about whether she is
Working her way towards whether they are successful ways of getting at the state she wants to be at at the end.
That's what set the standard.
And obviously that creates a practical problem, right?
Because we don't have any access.
The aspirin doesn't have any access, direct access to the person she's going to be when she isn't yet that person.
And so that's why we find aspirin so often having like mentors, right?
Because I could consult someone else who is a doctor now, right?
who has achieved the end of the process and have them help me understand whether or not I'm doing things correct if I'm the medical aspirant.
So that's the normative direction, the direction of what sets the standards for success or failure.
And in aspiration, it's the thing at the end that sets the standards of success or failure for the whole process.
And that thing is something to which the aspirant herself has only incomplete access until she reaches it, right?
But
You know, that doesn't change the fact that causality runs in a certain direction.
And so the person at the end of the process is the causal result of the aspirant, right?
They brought her about.
