I'm not being curious.
And curiosity actually is a result of reflects care.
Because to be really open and curious about something somebody's saying, now I'm a recovering attorney, litigation attorney, so I had to learn to ask questions in a way that weren't a yes or no.
Because you're trained, don't ask a question that you don't already know the answer to.
But for me to be fully open and curious, it feels really different because now I'm listening for connection.
Now I'm listening to really know that I don't know what she meant.
Totally different person for me.
And now I'm going to be open to what Anna actually says.
And I'm like, oh, okay, I get it.
And now we're actually in greater connection because I gave the gift of this critical care of curiosity.
I say curiosity is care because you take time to listen, right?
You have to take a beat.
You have to suspend the stories that you're telling yourself, right?
You have to be open, you have to have a degree of emotional agility to be able to do that.
Especially if in some way I was activated or landed in a certain way.
Curiosity is care.
And generosity, believing somebody's doing the best they can, doesn't mean I'm not going to hold them accountable.
A lot of times we think with words like empathy and generosity, it means that I can't hold somebody accountable.
But they're not mutually exclusive.
And the way of how to carry them both so that accountability is not a scary thing.
