And like to Michael's point, when the second argument fell flat, it's then reverted back to like, oh, well, like, you know, we're relitigating DSA's demographic survey from 2021.
I think the 2021 survey identified 85 percent of their members as white voters.
DSA is an organizing body, right?
Like, I sort of think it's a bit of a straw man, you know, to make that claim as sort of a way to discount concrete evidence that these candidates are resonating with voters and Democratic voters who people like Hakeem Jeffries, you know, need in their party.
I also spoke about this with Wisconsin State Rep Darren Madison, who is a Democratic socialist.
He's the first Black socialist elected leader in the state of Wisconsin.
I asked him about this claim, you know, that DSA is all white or that these are only white voters.
And he made the point, and I think this is a really good one, that the roots of Black political organizing in the United States have overlapped with socialist ideology and socialist principles for a very long time.

The idea of mutual aid, like going back to the Black Panthers, the former executive director of the New York State Democratic Party, Basil Smichel, had an op-ed about this in the New York Daily News after the New York primaries that I thought was really good, too, talking about how Black political organizing sort of predates democratic socialism and how
They overlap.
And he also gets into sort of where Democratic socialists, you know, struggle with making inroads with older black voters because they see the Democratic Party as sort of an institution that helped them to build power at one point.
But that many of those movements started in sort of socialist centered forms of organizing.
And so I think that's a really important point to mention as well.
I think Democrats who are trying to make the claim that socialism is not being a Democrat, which we heard from New Jersey Rep.
Josh Gottheimer, you know, after the New York primary wins, like, your voters put these people in office.
And also...
Recent history is strewn with Democrats who were, you know, we were told over and over again are electable and, you know, the right choice for the party who have not won.
You know, DSA has elected more than 300 candidates in 39 states.
