That was a major plot point in early season.
Everyone turns up thinking they know how to make a fire.
But I think it feels like in Survivor, one thing that does really, really set it apart is the quality of the games as games.
So the Traitors games, they do make them every year.
There's very little at stake in them.
Most of them don't function very well as competitive games, but the Survivor games are really well designed for the most... Some of them don't work for weird production reasons.
One of my favorite things I watched in the run-up to this was a very, it was an excellent, very long documentary by Dan Olson of Folding Ideas comparing Beast Games, Mr. Beast's awful waste of Amazon money game show, which is a Survivor ripoff and Survivor.
One of the things he keeps coming back to is that just the games are very poorly designed and it means there's no tension in the show at all.
And for Survivor, if like, obviously you're in your 50th season, you don't have the viewers that you used to, you've got to choose where to spend your money.
I think it does them a lot of credit that if the decision is let's reuse the games that we know are well-designed, good games, and we're already pricing in the fact that everyone who turns up, we're not going to really be able to surprise them anymore with anything that we pull.
I think it's probably a good decision not to try and keep ahead of the fan base at this point and just focus on making the show quality and fair.
That direction for Survivor sounds a lot like that really, really awful... There's that legendarily bad reality show that went terribly wrong where they had people living like cavemen and then people living like future people and...
