This is my shocked face.
Along with his jealousy, which really has been his weak spot all along, hasn't it?
For quite some time.
Pass the buck, basically, you know.
The text here is saying he simply didn't know how much Sauron already knew about his thoughts.
The footnote gives us a little bit more there.
It says, "...earlier in this version it is said that Sauron had at this time, by means of the Palantiri, at last began to daunt Saruman, and could, in any case, often read his thought, even when he withheld information."
So there's something.
Sauron knows something's up.
I don't know that that's a good idea to reveal that piece of information if you're Saruman.
Yeah, the Dark Lord in particular.
So then we get his like, I don't know, this is kind of funny.
It's sort of like a lofty presentation to the Nazca.
Like he's giving a PowerPoint presentation on a Zoom call with his chat turned off.
I'm not here to listen to you peasants.
I'm here to tell you what's going on.
These aren't your underlings though, Sauron.
