Clients actually love AI, just not in the treatment room.
They love it when booking an appointment is easy, instant, and available at the exact moment they think about it, which, by the way, is often between 11 p.m.
and 1 a.m., that late night scroll, that sudden, I need to book this now moment.
And no matter how dedicated your team is, you physically cannot have a receptionist at the desk at midnight.
AI doesn't replace that role, it extends it.
Clients want appointments booked at the most convenient times, even when the business is closed, retail products that are easy to purchase in stock and linked to the treatment history, automated reminders that feel thoughtful, not transactional, and post-appointment check-ins that show care without adding to staff workload.
When done well, none of this feels cold or robotic.
It feels considered.
It feels professional.
It feels like the salon, spa, or clinic they love, just more organized.
I bring up her article specifically for two reasons.
I can't help but wonder if she too remembered what the Amazon Cylon was trialing.
There are layers to that that I won't get into here, but I don't think it was ever about rejecting tech back then.
The professional hair and beauty and meta-aesthetics industries have been and continue to adopt tech.
My personal observation is that adoption seems to be and perhaps might always remain, generally speaking, coming from a place of does this solve an actual point of friction or problem far more than it ever comes from a place of let's just add this in because it's new.
And maybe that speaks to the perpetual weight of the to-do lists carried by so many beauty and wellness owners and the reality of those navigating slim margins, where ultimately focus is reserved for the foundational elements that truly make a difference on the balance sheet and the day-to-day of putting out fires.
Second reason why I bring that article up.
Tamara then goes on to mention the front desk and reception.
This will also be mentioned in an upcoming conversation with Scott Buchanan, president of Intercoffure America Canada and owner of Scott J. Salons.
