Even if and when we deeply want something we know is gonna require it, like moving to a new city or launching a project, a new business.
A creative I follow on Instagram, her handle's Kitty Noor, and I'll link the reel I'm about to reference in the show notes, but she shared something once that really stuck with me.
And though she was coming at it from a creative or art practice perspective, I think it applies even to say moments where you're forced to face change with creativity in business or life in general.
What she said was you can't be creative and afraid of change at the same time.
They cancel each other out.
Your fear of change, like your fear of uncertainty, is killing your creativity.
Creative energy is a form of change.
Creativity is an agent of change.
Change is an agent of creativity.
Which I guess is inconvenient news for anyone trying to build something meaningful, whether it be a career, a business, a community.
Or a life that actually feels aligned.
Martha Graham, a primal artistic force of the twentieth century, named Dancer of the Century by Time magazine in nineteen ninety-eight and named among the female icons of the century by People magazine.
Once described her dancing not as an attempt to interpret life in the literary sense, but an affirmation of life through movement.
In the same vein she's also known to have said
There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action.
And because there's only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique.
And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost.
It's very easy to avoid or delay what we want on the basis of timing or that we're not quite ready.
We just need to think about it a little longer.
The conversation we keep softening, the creative idea we keep shelving.
