One is he's had a lot of military successes lately.

The capture of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela, strikes in Somalia and in Nigeria and in Yemen.

So he's sort of fueling himself, let's say, and fueling the military option.

Also more pertinent to the situation, Trump struck three of Iran's nuclear sites and was able to get a 12-day war between Israel and Iran to stop basically by sheer force of will.

So he may feel he's able to contain a conflict, but that is always more of a guess than a guarantee.
