And which is something that I find in that you find in Han Dynasty Chinese thought in particular, right, with this with this notion of the the five phases, right?
With the five with five phases being similar to the kind of elements theory in ancient Greece, in which when you've got a phase that's represented in a particular object, it's got this connection and
produce other other objects of similar type.
Yeah, so uh embedded identity, it's it's it's it's an important part of this kind of correlative picture um that I was talking about uh before.
And one of the one of the uh concepts that's important here is this concept of of seeding or or chum.
Um there are a number of images, uh I have a couple of these in the book, for example, um that talk about the seeding of rulers or the seeding of time, um things like this.
And the way that this is understood, I argue, is in terms of embedding
Um
New identities into
particular persons, particular things, uh that is adding
Potential had it adding new layers to an individual thing such that new entities are manifest within it.
So the idea is that you can have a particular individual, uh say myself, Alexis McLeod, but and I can all and I can be Alexis McLeod, but at the same time, when uh the embedded identity is operative, I can also be, say, my my grandfather and just be and and actually be identical uh to my grandfather.
And this happens not only in the case of persons, but also
in the case of objects.
And the the the concept that's uh uh often discussed here is the concept of uh substitution or kesh.
Uh the idea is that during certain performances, right, performances of the Popovu or performances where uh particular dancers or actors uh play the role of one of the gods, they can actually become the the people who are are are depicted rather than uh rather than depicting them.
With the idea being that the reason they can become this this uh other other individual is because they always include this kind of potential um to be those things, given a different kind of conceptualization of the of the ground of being.
One one way of understanding this, uh I talk about this uh this concept of the of kin or the day in uh in in Maya thought.
