So there there are a few.
Uh famously uh Miguel Leon Portia uh made this argument that um that time is this kind of basic uh element in Maya thought, and that other things like the gods or individuals, everything that exists, ultimately reduces to uh to time.
And so my view here is that um it seems like in a number of the texts we have it there's evidence that
Elements, everything can be understood as an element of time, right?
So the gods or the rulers or each individual can be understood ultimately, or can be understood as time.
But time ultimately can also be understood as those things.
It seems that either level neither level is the fundamental level, right?
So um they're they're both one an alternative way of of understanding this, which I use this kind of Taoist uh frame uh to develop, is to s to say, well, maybe what's going on.
On is that numbers and time and the gods and all these various things that are understood in terms of one another in the Maya text are all themselves way of understanding this kind of ineffable ground of being, right?
Rather than reducible to any one of those things.
So that if we understand the gods or particular ruler as identified with a particular time period, it's not that what the God most fundamentally is is a time period, but rather it's one way of
describing that entity is in terms of the time period and another way of describing that entity is in terms of um this particular this particular ruler.
Those are both ways of conceptualizing uh this this ground of being
Oh the c the uh the um uh the qu the correlative uh cosmology bit?
Yeah, so the idea here is that the what the there are particular correlations between um different aspects of the world, right, as we as we conceptualize them.
And this is what makes this what makes it possible for there to be transformations between things like uh a particular ruler in a particular time period um and a particular number, things like this.
Right.
And so the idea is that what makes sense of why all of those things can be the same isn't a kind of
production from one to another, but a particular correlative pattern that that that connects one type of thing to another type of thing.
That's the idea.
