And the question of the state versus the regime, can you parse that for me, please?
You know, in a prison, for example, they say a prison can only work with the consent of the prisoners.
And in the same way a state can only work if there's some sort of social cohesion in the sense that people say, OK, we don't like this, but we're going to live with it and put up with it.
How true is that in Iran?
So the question of where any change might come from, I mean, there was talk, you know, that it will liberalize, that there will be diplomatic breakthroughs.
Was that misplaced, that belief that, you know, a fundamental, maybe slow drift towards Western thinking would happen within Iran?
Talk to me about the role of Israel in all of this.
I mean, Benjamin Netanyahu at the beginning, while he was being a Trump whisperer in the Oval Office, was saying, you know, there will be regime change.
And the idea that the Americans and the Israelis together, by bombing the infrastructure of the people of Iran, would somehow bring about the change and that ordinary Iranians would love them for it.
You know, there'll be a bit of pain.
This is Donald Trump's mantra anyway.

I mean, is any of that true that they could learn to love Israel?
Is there a fundamental misunderstanding of the nature of Iranian society and Iranian culture?
I mean, I was thinking when Donald Trump was talking about ending a civilization.
