And sometimes that's the frustration is that you can't do it all on your own.

You can't do the publicity and the marketing and the copyediting.

But when you are writing, it's just on you.

You are carrying the backpack up the mountain alone.

The cavalry isn't coming.

You have to put the words on the page.

And I think that sense of total responsibility, knowing how that feels, I hope...

made me even more empathetic to my authors.

I would bounce ideas off of people, but it's not the same as getting your ass in a chair and having to write 10,000 words in a month or whatever.

I was very systematic about it.

I had very clear word count goals and a schedule and stuff.

I have to do it.

Nobody's coming to do this for me.

It took me a little longer than I hoped because hopefully this will make people feel sorry for me and buy my book.
