Well, in Heartstopper, it's Alid, who is only in the books.
He's not in the TV show.
He's the friend who's kind of quiet.
He's like, you know, he doesn't often speak up.
He's just kind of doing his own thing.
And I relate to that a lot.
That's me and my friendship group.
That's an interesting question because the most difficult book to write was Volume 4 because that's the volume which has a really strong focus on Charlie's mental health journey.
And sort of figuring out how to explore that in a real and honest way while also not completely changing the tone of Heartstopper was a really difficult challenge.
But...
To be honest, the volume that actually was hardest emotionally was the final volume.
Because it's the last one.
Every moment I was making it, I was sort of sitting with this feeling of like, oh, this is the last time I get to do this.
This is the last time I could get to draw this character.
And particularly as I got right towards the end of the book, it was almost like...
I didn't want to draw because it was like, if I draw this, it's going to be over.
