upbeat and joyful as Heartstopper is um and so maybe when I before I made Heartstopper I had this kind of vision of what sort of writer I was which is you know I write about serious issues and like which you know I still do in Heartstopper but I think Heartstopper did teach me how much I value stories bringing you joy and how important that can be um and that maybe that is
you know, something intrinsic about me as an artist and the art that I want to put out into the world.
I think, yeah, that's something that I was not really aware of when I was just writing my novels.
Oh, wow.
Hardest moment as an author?
I mean, talking about Heartstopper specifically, I mean, I think...
It was probably actually when I was writing Volume 5, realising that there needed to be one more and kind of changing the plan to accommodate for that.
Because when I got to Volume 5, I was quite excited about it being the last volume.
I was like, right, here we are.
This is the last one.
The series is going to be complete.
And I felt really good about that.
Then as I was writing it, I started to realise there's so much that I want to...
explore with these characters yeah i'm not going to be able to do it in this one book there needs to be another book and that sort of sent me into a bit of a spiral where i was like oh i'm going to be making heartstopper for like three more years am i is that okay like am i ready for that um so that that was a hard thing to come to terms with but obviously i'm really glad i did because yeah now i you know i got to do everything i wanted with heartstopper which is the most important thing
The proudest moment?
Well, I mean, seeing a copy of Hot Supper for the first time, the self-published copy before it was published that I had completely made by myself.
You know, I did everything.
I did the Kickstarter campaign.
I did the designing of the book, you know, all the contact with the printer and just holding that book in my hands.
