Even on the tile, the water covered my ears, waves muffling the lights buzzing above, making everything feel distant and unreachable as I lay on my back.
I passed out again.
When I woke up, I felt less like dying.
I was still weak with hunger, my hands trembling harshly, and my mouth tasted foul, but I could stand up and walk without getting too dizzy.
I announced to the silent room, pointing an accusing finger at the water.
Take that, pool!
I didn't die from drinking you!
I paused, frowning.
Uh, knock on wood?
There was no wood in the room, so I just knocked on the wall.
With my energy restored, I resumed my mission to search for an exit with vigor.
My search only increased in intensity when I realized that the water had risen to my ankles.
It was rising faster.
Damn it, I muttered, kicking at the water, sending it splashing against the wall as I waded forward.
My socks were soaked again.
If I didn't hurry, I'd either starve to death or drown because of the rising water.
Whichever came first.
