I can't be overstated like this is the guy who ran Abercrombie & Fitch from 1992 until 2014. Then I just want to read this quote from Mike Jeffries. He says in every school there are the cool and popular kids and then there are the not so cool kids. Candidly, we go after the cool kids. We go after the attractive, all American kid with a great attitude and a lot of friends.
A lot of people don't belong. in our clothes and they can't belong. Are we exclusionary? Absolutely. Those companies that are in trouble are trying to target everybody, young, old, fat, skinny, but then you become totally vanilla. You don't alienate anybody, but you don't excite anybody either.
That is such a telling quote because it really reflects this tension within Abercrombie, which is between having a brand and having a fetish and between image creation and being exclusionary.
So yeah, let's talk a little bit about the allegations that came up in your documentary. So let's talk about Bruce Weber first.
Yeah, that is something that really strikes me and something I've been thinking about related to several different stories, whether it's the Menendez Brothers or Diddy. But yeah, just something I've been thinking about recently is how different it is when men experience sexual assault and how we as a culture are still a little behind
Despite so many public stories about men or boys who've experienced sexual assault, whether it's within the Catholic Church or at Penn State and the football team or within Boy Scouts and yet... dass männliche Gefühle oder Überlebende immer noch eine unglaublich schwierige Arbeit haben, das als das zu identifizieren oder das zu präzisieren.
That was how it was being thrown around, you know? And I think that's a really important note there. So, in the documentary, you have this card that says, there are no reports of models alleging any sexual misconduct by Mike Jeffries.
Your film came out in 2022 and it was on Netflix and so many people watched it. And then BBC Panorama went and did a series, World of Secrets, The Abercrombie Guys, which was this really great podcast all about sex.
A lot of the allegations and what the further reporting and the indictment that has come out, what all of that has alleged is that there was essentially a very structured apparatus to allegedly find men who could then be sex partners for Mike Jeffries and his partner. And there was even this kind of audition process with this other guy, Jim Jacobson, James Jacobson, who's also been indicted and
Yeah, it comes up again and again that he sort of didn't have a nose, but had like a snakeskin bandage over his nose. I mean, it's like really incredibly, incredibly dark stuff. I should say that Mike Jeffries has pled not guilty to all counts. What has your reaction been to the unfolding of this case since?
