So you've just got a different group that are having, you know, important impacts on the year and the coaches just felt that that's something they wanted to reward and recognise and hopefully we can sort of build that in prestige over the coming years.
Yeah, so one of the things we have the coach votes, as I call them, but who the coaches think the best player of the year is, where each coaching group for each game gets five votes.
And that's really now recognised really well as a really well thought of award.
But one of the things that the senior coaches, and we've talked about last year, was...
defence and the defensive aspect of the game such an important part, how do we recognise that?
So we ran a pilot last year where the coaches voted on who they thought was the best defensive player of the ward.
And that's quite a broad category.
So we just basically say, who do you think's had the best impact from a defensive point of view?
And it might mean effective tackles, spoils, stopping a quality opposition player, intercept marks, defensive running patterns, whatever it is.
Um, and so, um, this ran the pilot and this year we've run it formally with the idea that at the all Australian awards and our awards, we, we announce it.
So, you know, some of the names that are sort of in, in the mix are not necessarily going to get a lots of Brownlow votes, but you know, it's good recognition.
So, um,
You know, some of the names are, you know, Tom McCartan, you know, this is just sort of who's got, you know, good solid votes this year so far.
You know, Daniel Turner, Callum Wilkie, Ryan Lester, Harris Andrews, Mullen from Geelong, O'Sullivan from Geelong.
So you've just got a different group that are having, you know, important impacts on the year.
And the coaches just felt that that's something they wanted to reward and recognise.
And hopefully we can sort of build that in prestige over the coming years.
That's right.
You can consider the opposition, but you get two and one.
So two votes and one vote.
