The other thing are terms of that settlement that were reached.
As part of that settlement, President Trump got assurances that current and past audits going on against him and his family members would be dropped.
That's another thing that Cornyn and Tillis are taking a lot of issue with, mainly because they say they need to see the scope of that audit immunity narrowed.
They want assurances that it applies only to Trump and his family and that it is only applicable retroactively, meaning that the IRS could open audits against the president or his family members moving forward from this moment in time.
That's another thing that Cornyn and Tillis want to see in writing.
And in some ways, they say they want to see that agreement formally modified.
But right now, it seems like seeing it in writing might be enough for them.
It's been a little unclear on that front.
So both of these issues need to be resolved for these two senators to get on board.
And they are very critical votes here because both of them sit on the Senate Judiciary Committee, where Blanche will need every single Republican to advance out of that committee and get to a vote on the Senate floor.
So this back and forth squabbling about getting Blanche confirmed has been going on for a little while now, several weeks where we've heard Cornyn kind of making these demands, it being unclear if they're being met, all of that.
And President Trump, sometimes not the most patient individual, right?
Sometimes he likes to kind of push the subject forward.
And in this case, yesterday, we saw the president do just that.
So he took to social media and he called Todd Blanche a star and said that he was willing
to pull Blanche's nomination and keep him in that acting role that he's currently serving until Tillis and Cornyn, who are both leaving the Congress at the end of this year, are out of office.
So that maybe Trump is facing a more favorable Senate that would be more interested in confirming Blanche.
So he's saying, go ahead, object.
