Todd Blanch currently has all the authority that he would have as a Senate-confirmed attorney general in his role as an acting attorney general.

Now, I should say, for many people serving in acting roles in the government, there is a timeline for how long they're allowed to serve in that role.

But in Todd Blanch's case, it's widely believed that he'd be able to serve in that position even longer than that timeline because he's already been confirmed by the Senate once as the deputy attorney general.

Yesterday on Capitol Hill, there was a lot of drama going on.

You had reporters running around the building, chasing Tillis, chasing Cornyn, trying to get information from them about where negotiations between the senators and the Department of Justice stood.

All of this drama coming after Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley late Wednesday night decided not to hold a scheduled committee vote to advance Blanche because he was pretty concerned that without Cornyn and Tillis, the nomination would fail.

Yeah, it's got to get done.

Cornyn and Tillis essentially left the Hill yesterday saying, we have no deal.

We're not there yet.

But what ABC News has learned is that Tillis and Cornyn later met with Blanche.

So the two met with Blanche after canceling several meetings with him over the last few weeks yesterday evening.

Now, it's not clear what exactly came out of that meeting.

Those sources have told us they are closer.

There is no deal yet.
