I know you're not in charge of flights around the world, Amelia.

I know that isn't necessarily your jurisdiction.

I've read a lot of analysis of why soap operas are dying, things like Neighbours and, you know, Home and Away and in Britain very famous ones.

is because so many plot points are all about the frustrations of not being able to tell a person a thing.

The phone has erased so many of those friction points that it does make life much more boring.

I've dipped in and out of this show.

I will dip back in.

Amelia, I am definitely there.

But the thing is I did live in this era.

My early socialising and dating was in a pre-phone world, only just socialising.

I remember very clearly when I first saw my first mobile phones and all those things.

But it makes me realize, well, two things actually.

One is the excitement.

I think about because the 90s was my 20s, right?

I would go out on a night and you would have an amazing frisson with someone or a flirtation or whatever and then you would never, ever see that person ever again and there was no way to track them down.

And it was wildly exciting.

See, I'd never experienced that.

Yeah, you might just bump into them somewhere.
