And all of the evidence suggests, and you can get lots of evidence from Scandinavia in particular, that the countries that have the most social mobility are actually the most equal, because if you like, the rungs on the ladder are closer together. voice-verified

But it is just a fact that if you're going to have what they think of as zero-sum social mobility, because you get different types, for some people to move up, others would have to move down. voice-verified

There's another kind of social mobility, which is what we had in this country in the post-war years, which was changes to the labor market, basically. voice-verified
