Probably just don't have as much as he did just for safety reasons.
Well, the nice thing about... So some of these asylums and hospitals, there were actually a lot of volunteer groups that...
would work and visit these locations.
And so in this case, there was a women's club in West Virginia that would regularly go, especially during holidays and whatnot, and they would volunteer their time to assist, and they would bring meals that were probably much better than what was being served in the cafeteria.

hard recollections of what it was like there.
Like some of them journaled about it after and just kind of how the conditions were.
And I think that was really what motivated them to keep going back.
And so I found one of the women's groups there.
I found their historic site.
uh, cookbook.
And so I love when I go to an antique store or any like rummage sale or something, I obsessively look for old cookbooks.
I love cooking old recipes.
Uh, and I found one of their, uh, cookbooks and in there, uh, they talked about a cranberry bread that they made or a cranberry cake, I should say.
Uh, and I thought, I just imagined them bringing that, uh, as one of their dishes there because, you know, and, and so,
I picked that one just to kind of pay homage to this group that worked so hard and volunteered and tried to do what they could to alleviate some of the suffering of some of the patients there and then also make something that we could kind of enjoy at home.
And so that is one of my favorite recipes in the book, actually.
Well, definitely.
And I would say like, like you bring up lard, there were definitely a couple of recipes that called for lard.
And we notated that in the book that, uh, that something called for lard originally, but we would replace, we replaced it with butter or something, but it's there as an option if people still want to use lard, you know?
