And then he changed the rules again, where if you didn't take up private health by the time that you turned 31, that you would receive a financial penalty for that
That would, you know, continue to amass.
And so it actually became personally better for you to pay for private health rather than not have it.
And so now we've got about $8 billion in subsidies going to private health, which could be going into the public health system.
We have a private health system that is also struggling.
There's no products anymore that don't have, you know, some sort of like a gap payment.
And so John Howard, who complained about Medicare because it meant that people were paying twice, right?
They were paying for the fee and then they were paying the gap, the taxes and then the gap.
People are now paying taxes, the Medicare gap, a private health fee and then the private health gap.
And so he always said like, oh, I'm trying to make things fairer.
But what he wanted to do was undercut faith in public systems.
And he did that over everything.
He did that over migration.
He did that by not pushing back against Pauline Hanson, by actually embracing her and allowing her to say the things that he couldn't say.
He, you know, had a once in a generation mining boom and
where he taught everybody that a budget is supposed to be like a household budget, you know, like you have to save more than you spend.
But he didn't put any of what he got from that mining boom into the future.
He gave it all in basically middle class welfare in terms of like tax subsidies, and he gave it for higher tax breaks for wealthier people.
So he became like a budget is supposed to be a surplus.
That is the sole goal of a government is to have a budget.
