He wanted a relaxed and comfortable Australia and everything that he did was focused on making a generation relaxed and comfortable so they didn't think about politics.
And then he lost the election because, you know, he went too far.
But I would say that he would think it was worth it because what he put in place is still largely, you know, within our industrial relations sphere and with our society.
And then everything started to go to shit.
John Howard was gone by then.
So he reaped all of the rewards.
Then he exited.
He intervened to say what he would do in this situation.
But what we're dealing with and the reason why it's been so difficult for all governments, Labor and coalitions since John Howard is because of what John Howard put in place, particularly when it comes to the budget.
But he never had to clean up any of that mess.
He's always like, oh, everything was fine when I was there for those 11 years.
not sure what you guys are doing, but I completely managed.
And when you go back and look at like the 1970s, when he was treasurer in the Fraser government, he was not a great economic manager.
Interest rates were sky high.
You know, our debt ratio was sky high.
And yeah, he was dealing with stagflation, which was a
a big, you know, economic shake-up, I suppose, that happened across most of the Western world.
But what he put in place did not address stagflation in a way that, you know, meant that Australians didn't experience poorer economic times.
Nobody remembers that John Howard.
Everybody just remembers John Howard where he just had rivers of gold flowing into his coffers.
