But for her, it was perfect.
And that is part of it, figuring out for you what life after divorce looks like when it comes to your possessions.
How much honour do you need to give things that were someone else's?
One of the tricky things that can come out of divorce when it comes to decluttering is things like photos with both of you in, particularly wedding photos can be particularly difficult for people to go through.
You might be tempted to just get rid of them all.
What I would encourage you to do is think about whether there's somebody else that might like those photos.
Maybe you've got children that might like to have a record of their mum and dad on their wedding day.
Even though that marriage didn't last, it was still a marriage that maybe brought them forth or had great memories for them.
You might just keep a couple of photos rather than getting rid of everything.
It doesn't have to be all or nothing as much as it can be really tempting to after a divorce client to like get rid of it all.
But I want to encourage you that sometimes keeping a couple of things because as the emotion and the heat comes out of that initial stages of recovery from divorce, you might be able to look back on some of those seasons and reflect and think,
well, it was a great season while it lasted, right?
There were some really good things in it.
So think about that.
Wedding dresses, really, really tricky.
I think most clients that I work with who've gone through a divorce get rid of their wedding dress.
They're never going to wear it again and it doesn't bring them good memories.
But photos, however, it's easy to keep just a couple of photos.
