Happy birthday to me.

This week, I want to talk about functional versus aesthetic organizing.

As a professional organizer, sometimes I feel a bit torn.

Laura Smith talked about last week about how sometimes we want to have these spaces where the organizing is beautiful.

It's lovely to look at, but it also motivates people to keep up with it, to keep it organized and not kind of let it slide back into disorganization.

And then I look at other organizers online or see different clients myself, whether the focus is really on the functional.

They don't really care what it looks like.

They just want it to function well.

And so I thought today, let's explore both of these different ways of organizing.

And right from the front, it's not one or the other.

In most homes, it's a combination of both.

But sometimes you feel like your organizing isn't working when actually you're just trying to focus on the wrong one.

So you might find like under the bathroom sink, you're really trying to make it look beautiful.

But actually in that space, you just need functional storage.

And then in your entrance area where every person who ever walks in your house walks through, you've got like this, you know, functional storage.

And you're not happy with it because actually maybe it needs to be a little bit more aesthetically pleasing.

So I want to kind of go through that with you.

I hope what you can do is identify, ah, yeah, that's where in my home, maybe I need to swap.

I need to integrate a little bit of one or the other, or just to recognize, yep, I'm someone who really values aesthetic organizing or no, you know what, Amy, I don't really care.

I'm much more about the function.
