naturally I'm much more of a functional organizing person but I get to work with clients and I have staff who will you know sway more to the aesthetic organizing and each client it's not about what I like it's about what our clients like and so sometimes I need to get really creative with that aesthetic organizing and make it look beautiful for a client because that's actually the motivator that is going to keep them keeping it up and keeping it organized for themselves.

So let's start with functional organizing.

And this is really about ease of use prioritized over appearance.

It's really about like, how do I use this space?

What is making me frustrated and what frustrations do I want to solve for?

And you might be thinking in that space, like, how do I just make putting things away easier?

You're not so much worried about how pretty it looks.

You just want it to be really easy to use.

It's an easy system.

It's a maintainable system.

For you, it might mean taking lids off containers because maybe the lid, even though it looks nicer...

might be the barrier to you putting things away.

You might look at it and think, oh, I'll just put it on top of the lid.

I know there's many of you that are guilty of that because I see it all the time.

And it's a reason that for any storage I can, I don't use lids.

When the storage is somewhere where it can get dusty or somewhere where it can be seen, I will use a lid only because I have to.

But otherwise, it's no lids for me because I want to reduce that barrier to putting things away.

So another thing you might think about is like, how do I naturally reach for this item?

So if you go into a drawer, you might not need drawer dividers if you're functionally organizing.

You might just know that in that drawer, I just have what I need and I don't need to have it separated out.
