But as you're tackling your next organizing job, I want you to think, does this space need to be aesthetic or functional or a bit of both?

And it might be that you have the aesthetic might come into play with the actual containers.

You want to spend some money and buy containers that you really like, but within the container, you're happy to just chuck all the dog treats or the car keys or extra sunglasses or

You can chuck those things in that doesn't need to be perfectly organized within it, but you get kind of the general outer aesthetic, which could be a really good balance for you.

Some spaces that you might like to focus a little bit more on those aesthetics are things that are at eye level, things on open shelves, things in shared spaces.

Maybe if you've got a guest bathroom, you might want to think more aesthetic than function in that space.

But in your own bathroom, you might be totally fine with functional because you want to be able to get ready quickly in the morning and have your makeup easily accessible.

So the different spaces and the way that you use those spaces will really develop what the priority is when it comes to how you decide how you're going to organise.

Okay, what I'm going to do is quick fire, is go through a couple of areas in your home and give you an example of what it will look like if it's aesthetic and what it will look like if it's functional.

So let's go.

So the wardrobe, functional might mean that clothes are folded and they're just in like altogether large categories.

Aesthetic might mean that you have different color coded coat hangers or that you have drawer dividers to really, to separate out what the different categories are so that you can fold things really neatly.

Okay.

In a bathroom, functional might look like an open container with toothbrushes in it.

Aesthetic might mean that everything is kept behind the cupboard doors or in face-level storage.

Whereas functional might mean that, yeah, the toothpaste does get left on the bench because it's going to use it twice a day, times four people.

And so functionally, it makes more sense to allow it to be out.

In a pantry, functional might say, well, I'm just going to leave the food in the package and I'm going to use a clip just to make sure that it stays fresh.

Aesthetic would be, no, I have these containers and everything gets decanted into those and it looks lovely and it's labeled and I can see what's there.

Paperwork, you might have one functional tray where everything kind of comes into and you kind of know vaguely where everything is.
