The SNP have said they want to have another referendum.

The English, the British government have said we it's up to us to give you permission and we have no intention of giving you permission to have that poll.

In Northern Ireland, under the Good Friday Agreement, it depends on whether there is a settled majority in favour of unification.

There's no such settled majority as yet, so there's no prospect of a vote.

Though I should add that there's very little doubt that Brexit

Brexit and its aftermath increased interest in the idea of a United Island.

I mean it's really hard to say.

If you think about the last campaign for the Scottish referendum, it was a long campaign.

There were two years worth of campaigning.

And the polls went from something like twenty five percent in favour of independence up to forty five percent.

So it depends on the nature of the campaign, it depends what's happening during the campaign.

At the moment, the v uh Scottish people are are divided about fifty fifty, so it's impossible to tell really.

Well, if it happens like Brexit happened, you have the vote and you deal with the details afterwards and we know from experience how difficult that proved to be.

But you're absolutely right.

There are huge problems about shared pensions liability, about whether the Scots as of right could continue to use the pound, as to the role of the military.

Those are all things that really weren't properly discussed last time, certainly weren't agreed between Edinburgh and London.

And I think there would be issues again in the event.

As you say that the Scots were to vote for independence.

Well, you're always welcome to call me, but what I would say is this will develop over time because as I say, you have three political parties in power in Northern Ireland, in Wales and in Scotland that gain a degree of political kudos from there being tension with London.

So what we can expect that I think as long as this situation uh persists
