You know, things like having little pencils like this, pens like this.
Little pencils from Kmart, $4.
They're short.
So going for short things which forces them to hold it lower rather than actually, you know, the palma grip as they're developing.
Develop fine muscle stuff first before even doing that.
So...
I don't want to call it an assessment.
It's an observation and they do some activities and we have whānau doing it as well.
And so they go through and answer that and they go, oh my gosh, actually my child can do all these things.
But they're not recognising patterns and sequences and things like this and they're eye spies.
So actually we're thinking, oh, visual memory and visual perception.
Wow, actually that's going to have a big impact on maths because it's the foundations of maths.
And it's going to have a big impact on when they start writing B, D, P, Q. It's the same shape, just either mirror or reverse, you know, rotate it.
It's phenomenal.
So before even starting on those, we want to make sure that visual perception, we've worked on that, auditory memory.
So all of those things we want to look at, what are those key foundation skills?
