So people don't borrow a lot, but they earn a lot.
In other fields like the arts, for example, the opposite is true.
But the MBA, students can launch right into making in the six figures after graduating.
At some schools, more than $150,000 a year is the median salary.
And so this is something that if you're looking for a quick economic payoff, the MBA is a good option.
Also fields like computer science, engineering...
these can lead to high pay and relatively low debt.
I don't think it will surprise many people that computer science or an MBA pays a lot.
But what's interesting that I found in the course of my reporting over the last year is that in some of these fields, there are better scholarship opportunities than there are for other fields.
For example, if we're talking about PhDs, there's more financial aid opportunities.
in the sciences than there is in the humanities.
If we're looking at master's degrees, one of the things that I found the most surprising is that schools tend to charge the same amount for a master's degree, whether that's a master's degree in engineering or a master's degree in social work.
And some of these master's degrees in the humanities and the social sciences can actually take longer than
than a computer science master's degree.
When Melissa Korn and I wrote about the Columbia Film MFA, some of these students were spending five years in a master's program.
And so you end up with situations where getting a social work master's or a fine arts master's ends up costing more than getting a master's in computer science.
So students can find information about the median debt and median earnings for a particular program, whether it's a graduate program, undergraduate program, professional program, master's program.
It's all there for the most part.
