The College Scorecard is this really amazing tool that allows you to search all this information.
It's broken down by school, so you can see, hey, if I get an MBA from Columbia, what's the median salary for folks a couple years after graduation?
Now, the downside is not every school and every program is going to be in here.
There's a lot of data suppression for privacy reasons.
So if you're looking at a particularly small program, for example, a master's program that only has 10 graduates,
it's probably not going to be in the data.
So it may not be helpful for you in that case.
But if you're looking at an MBA or a master's in education or social work, a larger program, then this tool is going to be really useful for you.
Absolutely, it's different.
So earlier this week, we talked about how undergraduates are limited and how much that they can borrow.
Graduate students, however, are not.
They're allowed a lifetime limit of about $138,000 in subsidized and unsubsidized loans, but beyond that, they can borrow graduate plus loans.
Remember, we talked about parent plus loans and how parents can borrow for undergraduates for up to the cost of books, housing, food, etc.,
Well, at the graduate level, the students are allowed to borrow that money directly.
The downside of that is that these programs are some of the biggest culprits when it comes to burdensome student debt.
Master's degree programs are, by a lot of universities, considered cash cows, meaning they bring in a lot of money.
In that case, students end up borrowing grad plus loans.
Now, grad plus loans have a much higher interest rate than the traditional loans for undergraduate students, often about double.
In recent years, grad plus loans have had an interest rate as high as 7.9%.
