And so when people take the grad plus loans on, they need to have a sense of, okay, am I going to be able to pay this off?

Is this graduate program going to yield a salary that is worth taking on this level of debt?

Unfortunately, while there is financial aid for graduate students, the schools that offer very, very, very generous aid to undergraduates don't necessarily offer that same level of aid to graduate students.

And so people, just because they came from a low income or middle income family, shouldn't go to a master's program or a law program or a medical school.

assuming that they're going to get a big financial reward.

Now, that's not to say it doesn't happen.

It's less of a standardized process across schools.

Take Columbia University, which we wrote about last year.

Low-income undergraduates paid next to nothing, but Columbia Film graduates who received Pell Grants as undergraduates

Again, those are the grants from low-income families, borrowed a median of more than $200,000 in recent years.

And so that's a lot of money, particularly for someone who doesn't have the family resources to help pay that loan if they're unable to do so.

And so it's something for people to be cognizant of as they apply to graduate school.

So some colleges allow undergraduates to get a head start on a master's degree and shave a year off their total time in school.

This is actually something important for undergraduates to start thinking of.

I think a lot of people don't think about a master's degree until they're done with their undergraduate degree.

It's a total different step in the process.

But actually, there's a way to get that dual degree in just five years or so and shave a lot of time and money off of your education.
