And for me, to a certain extent, I suppose now looking back, I kind of go,

You know, I've ended up in the area that I'm in and talking to people every day of the week.

And there's actually massive similarities in the world of veterinary, in the world of running a pub to what I do in that you're dealing with the public.

Yes.

You, to some extent, become a kind of a sounding board or a listening ear for people.

And I'd like to think we help people with problems from time to time.

But you also never know who's coming in the door in the same way as, you know, you never know who's ringing into the radio show.

You never know who's coming through the door of the pub or calling you out on a call in the practice.

So I do see strands of similarities now looking back at my mum and dad.

But even as a child, you were, you know, you would have been exposed to the people you were going out to help.

yeah with your dad yeah so you learned how to deal with the public from a very young age and it was all like I remember even like at home and being kind of like literally being four and five years of age and my job on a Saturday was I had to I had to do was call like he used to say you know you have to do the phone today now there's no one no one in the office you have to do the phone and that would mean like so anyone ringing our home house in Donegal would ring you know and you know I need Gerry out we need him to come out and whatever attend to this animal or blah blah blah blah blah and this is pre-mobiles

So he used to have like this little handheld walkie talkie in his little car, in his little van.

And then we used to have one in the house and these big like mad aerials that used to come out of the house.

And like you'd have to like, you know, call him in the walkie talkie and like I'd have to give him.

And I always remember it was like name, address, what's wrong.

So this is pre-air code.

So I would just know that, you know, whatever.

Katie is called in with a cow cabin and her address is blah, blah, blah in Ballyshan and Donegal.

And he would just know where that is from over the years.

And I'd give him the call and yeah, he'll be there in an hour.
